Mong Tong is a band formed by brothers. Taking inspiration from electronic keyboard music, game soundtracks, and psychedelic rock, they have incorporated folk tales and sightings of extraterrestrials into a self-made genre they have dubbed “superstitious music”. The foundation of their music is sampling and psychedelic rock, with the guitar sections making liberal use of effect pedals such as wah-wah and delay. Central to Mong Tong’s sound is the high-pitched sounds emitted by electronic keyboards, often heard at Taiwanese religious festivities used by Nagashi bands. Conceptually, they have strived to integrate the supernatural and religious beliefs they were exposed to during their upbringing, as well as the covers of Taiwanese science fiction and psychic literature books from the 70s and 80s.
