Walls may keep you in, but love will set you free!

For more than two decades, Helen Yang, a retired broadcaster from Taiwan who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1980s, corresponded with inmates serving life sentences at high-security prisons in New York State. At home, she and her granddaughter Ellen struggled to communicate with each other, living under the long shadow of devastating family tragedies. In hopes of reuniting with her son, who is serving an 84-year sentence in prison, Mama Zheng has worked tirelessly, swearing to never give up hope. Barbara Hust, a wheelchair-bound American woman, is on a healing journey following her husband's death. In her grief, she teaches prison inmates how to play the piano, and the music brings solace and joy to both them and herself. Filmed over ten years, “Come Home, My Child” follows Mama Yang, her niece Ellen, a prisoner's mother Mama Zheng, and piano teacher Barbara Hust, chronicling how the power of love transcends boundaries, bridging communities and generations.

A moving kinship-like bond forged between strangers and inmates in the prison.

A transformation that enables a grandmother and a granddaughter to reconnect. A group of people who search for a way out of suffering encounter each other in a world of loneliness.
