In 1970, before Okinawa’s return to Japan, three women’s friendship while in pursuit of their ideals under the turbulent political situation becomes an ode to their youth.
In 1970, both Okinawa and Taiwan are experiencing changes in political landscape: Taiwan is entering martial law and the Taiwan-US severance of diplomatic relations, while Okinawa is entering the end of the US military occupation. Okinawans that yearn for democracy when return to Japan’s control, breaks out the "Koza Riot" which set fire to and topple over U.S. military vehicles, arousing the recognition of a new national consciousness. For those with ambiguous identity such as the Taiwanese descendent in Okinawa, begins to worry for their well-being. Yoshiko ONG, a second generation Taiwanese Okinawan meets Kinue HIGAWA from the Yonaguni Island. While forming a supportive friendship and under the influence of modern era women’s cogitation, an ambiguous affection begins to sprout. They meet Mary, a woman who makes a living as a member of the “Black Market Network” by dealing and conduct trades between Yaeyama Islands and Taiwan. This chance encounter allows them to discover the unique similarities and the ideal society that Taiwanese and Okinawans are pursuing. While forming a supportive friendship and under the influence of modern-era women’s cogitation, an ambiguous affection begins to sprout. Through the friendship of these three women, this drama shows how women reacquaint themselves and their identities in a turbulent era.
