Mai A-Se, a young track and field athlete from Huatung, performed brilliantly in the IAAF U18 Championships in Athletics with his bursts of speed, described as "the explosive power of a wild boar". However, after his adoptive father got into an accident, A-Se became the family’s breadwinner without hesitation.

For Mai A-Se, a construction worker who lived on the mountainside of Taimali with his father, heavy drinking and borrowing money were part of his everyday life. Occasionally, he would also watch TV broadcasts of international sports events. One day, after his scooter broke down, A-Se found himself becoming part of the Yanping Township Bunun Sports Day in a twist of fate. As he took part in a race, A-Se felt the sore muscles, the exhilaration of sweating, and the constant rush of adrenaline, which were familiar to him. These sensations awakened his dormant memories.

Since he was in elementary school, A-Se had always performed brilliantly in track and field events. Once, after he was lost a race, he decided to try something he saw a baseball player do on TV. A-Se secured a scrap tire to his waist with a rope and jogged up the mountain, where he was almost run over by a wild boar! As he ran for his life away from the beast, he began to appreciate "the explosive power of a wild boar". Since then, A-Se had never lost any race. He even went on to lead Team Chinese Taipei in the IAAF U18 Championships in Athletics, in which the team made history by returning home with three gold medals and one silver medal. During this time, he also met Lina, his girlfriend. One could say that that was the highest point of his life.

However, right before A-Se graduated from high school, his father, Old Mai, slipped and fell off a scaffolding. The injury rendered him immobile. A-Se, who used to care for nothing besides running, did not hesitate in giving up his scholarship, which guaranteed him a spot in his chosen sports academy, so that he could care for his father. He dug in his heels and became the breadwinner of his family. Ten years flew by in a blink...
